AMMAN – HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, founder and chairman of Talal
Abu-Ghazaleh Global (TAG.Global) participated virtually in the 50th session
of the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action in Egypt. The
session which was chaired by Arab League Secretary General, HE Mr. Ahmed Aboul
Gheit, was held at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime
Transport in the Smart Village Campus – Cairo with the participation of a
number of Arab prominent personalities.
In
his speech, delivered digitally, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed the importance of
public-private partnership and the role of the private sector in implementing
government directives. He emphasized the necessity of introducing a clear
frame for this partnership, where the private sector could be tasked with the
role of handling the financial responsibility of digital transformation.
Furthermore, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh presented several proposals and
initiatives for the Arab League including the establishment of a digital
university under the umbrella of the Arab League, expressing his readiness to put Talal
Abu-Ghazaleh University College for Innovation (TAGUCI); the first digital Arab
university of its kind, at the disposal of the League under the honorary
presidency of the Secretary-General, Dr. Aboul Gheit, while TAG.Global would
proceed with the practical implementation.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his great appreciation for the
leadership of Dr. Aboul Gheit who was the first to call for the development of
‘education’ ,in light of the Knowledge Revolution, to become “Learning for the
Purpose of Innovation”.
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh further affirmed that scientific research should
be conducted for the purpose of innovation, saying: “We have established the
Arab States Research and Education Network (ASREN) and purchased an Internet
line devoted to the Arab scientific research at a very high level of
confidentiality, speed and specifications, and we put it at the disposal of the
Arab research institutions and the Arab League.”
For
his part, Mr. Aboul Gheit underlined the importance of the session which
tackled “Digital Transformation in the Arab Economies” for its importance in
developing the Arab countries’ social economy; stressing at the same time
the importance of building national capabilities in the fields of information
security and fighting digital piracy.
In his statement, S.G. Aboul Gheit welcomed the participation of
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh as a guest at the committee meeting, highlighting the
initiatives and ideas Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh reviewed concerning cooperation between
the specialized Arab organizations and the private sector in the field of
scientific research in particular.
In
conclusion, the Committee expressed its great recognition and appreciation of
Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh's ideas and suggestions to establish a digital university
under the umbrella of the League of the Arab States, in addition to his
encouragement and support to build further partnerships between the Arab
organizations and the private sector in the domain of scientific
research and cybersecurity for the purposes of innovation.
